Manistee is a city of small town charm and unique history. Here lakeside resorts and private escapes are crested in the birch trees and cedars. Dozens of lakes and miles of freshwater rivers and creeks course through the natural environs accentuating the natural beauty of the beaches....The sand dunes will astound you!
Outdoor sports run year-round. Golfing generally runs from April through November. Northern Michigan attract fishermen from all over the world in search of salmon, trout, walleye, perch, muskies and more. (We have some great ice fishing locations!). Magoon Creek and Orchard Beach State Park offer nature parks and hiking trails. Boat launches can be found in Manistee, Onekama, and other locations. There are snowmobiling trails toward the east half of Manistee County in Wellston, Brethren, Kaleva, Irons, and beyond. You can ski Crystal Mountain, Big-M or Caberfae Peaks.
Northern Michigan
Miles of sandy beaches with rolling sand dunes follow the west coast of Northern Michigan. Traverse City is known as the "Cherry Capital" of the world, with its own Cherry Festival in early July. In addition, there are numerous wineries in the Grand Traverse, Leelanau and Glen Arbor area. Manistee even offers its own organic vineyard at Douglas Valley - a new development with live entertainment events, wine tasting, and more. With all the inland lakes and rivers (not to mention the "big lake" - our own freshwater ocean we call Lake Michigan), you'll find many waterfront homes and vacation rentals to choose from. There are too many great dining options to choose from, plus shopping from antiques to art galleries, family entertainment, festivals, concerts in the parks, and much more.
